Idi Rayeuk & Langsa, May 17, 2025 — The Department of Informatics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), conducted a community service activity at two high schools, namely SMA Negeri 1 Idi Rayeuk and SMA Negeri 3 Langsa, on Saturday, May 17, 2025. This activity aimed to introduce and promote the Undergraduate Program in Informatics (S1 Informatics) and the Diploma Program in Informatics Management (D3 Informatics Management), as well as to provide education on the positive use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students.
Carrying the theme “Being Smart with AI: Positive Use of Generative AI Applications”, the event involved two community service teams who departed from Banda Aceh on May 16, 2025, to visit both schools. Upon arrival, the teams were warmly welcomed by the school representatives, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere for the event.
The event began with opening remarks from the school representatives, followed by presentations from the Department of Informatics team, which introduced the profiles and strengths of the S1 Informatics and D3 Informatics Management programs. To give the students a clearer picture, a profile video of both study programs was also shown.
After the study program promotion session, the activity continued with a presentation on Artificial Intelligence, focusing on Generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT and similar applications. The material was delivered interactively, featuring live demonstrations of positive AI uses in learning, creative work, and daily productivity.
Students from both schools showed great enthusiasm and actively participated in the Q&A and discussion sessions. This enthusiasm reflected the strong interest of young people in technological development—especially AI—and their curiosity about the field of informatics.
To conclude the activity, the USK Informatics Department team presented souvenirs to the schools as a token of appreciation and remembrance, followed by a group photo session. Through this initiative, the Department of Informatics USK hopes to inspire students to pursue higher education in informatics and equip them with valuable technological insights to face the digital era.
