Course Composition

Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Number 44 of 2015 concerning National Standards for Higher Education (SNPT), it is stated that the standard content of learning (curriculum composition) must include minimum criteria for the level of depth and breadth of the learning material. Based on these rules and provisions, the curriculum composition for the Informatics Department generally consists of: (1) General Education, (2) Mathematics and Basic Science, (3) Computer Science Basics (CS-Basic), (4) Breadth of Informatics Knowledge and Insight (CS-Breadth), (5) Depth of Informatics Expertise Skills (CS Elective), and (6) Other Electives (Non-CS Elective).

The depth of Informatics competency (CS Elective) represents the specialization within each of the breadth domains (CS-Breadth), consisting of 4 (four) areas of specialization/concentration, namely : (1) Database and Data Mining, (2) Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Data, (3) Computer Networks, and (4) Software Design.

In accordance with the learning outcomes, the depth and breadth of the study materials, and the level of competence to be achieved, the Informatics Department mandates that the minimum total Semester Credit Units (SKS/credits) required for graduation is 144 SKS. The number of SKS for each curriculum composition is as follows:

  • General Education 14 SKS
  • Mathematics and Basic Science 20 SKS
  • Computer Science Basics (CS-Basic) 32 SKS
  • Breadth of Informatics Knowledge (CS-Breadth) 39 SKS
  • Depth of Informatics Skills (CS Elective), minimum 30 SKS
  • Other Electives (Non-CS Electives), minimum4 SKS

Course Codes

Course codes in the 2016 Curriculum consist of six characters: the first three characters are letters indicating the code for the study program, faculty, or university, and the next three characters are numbers indicating the course numbering.

Letter Code The letter code consists of 3 characters. (The text does not specify what these characters are, only that they represent the Study Program, Faculty, or University.)

Number Code The number code consists of 3 digits:

  • The first digit indicates the year position of the course in the curriculum, for example:
    • Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 consecutively indicate the first, second, third, and fourth years.
    • The number 5 indicates an elective course.
    • The letter P indicates a course offered in both the odd and even semesters.
  • The second and third digits indicate the semester position of the course in the curriculum, for example:
    • 01, 03, 05, 07, 09, 11, etc., are odd semester courses.
    • 00, 02, 04, 06, 08, 10, 12, etc., are even semester courses.

Examples:

  • MKM 201 is a compulsory course for the Chemistry Study Program in the second year, odd semester (= 3rd semester course).

  • INF 502 is an elective course for the Informatics Study Program offered in the even semester.

Exceptions are applied to courses with the following codes:

  • MPA 300 is an Entrepreneurship course that still uses the same code even though it is implemented in the second year.

  • MKSP02 is a Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata) course implemented in both the odd and even semesters.

  • MPAPA1 is a Research Proposal course implemented in both the odd and even semesters.

  • MPAPA2 is a Final Project (Tugas Akhir) course implemented in both the odd and even semesters.”

Structure of Joint Courses of the FMIPA

All study programs within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences implement 39 SKS (credits) of national, university, and faculty courses, referred to as joint courses. A total of 17 out of the 39 SKS are basic joint courses, identified by the code MPA 1XX. The joint courses offered in the 1st and 2nd semesters are:

Semester 1 Semester 2
CodeCourseCredits (SKS)Code
MKS 101Indonesian Language2 (2-0)MKS 104
MKS 101Indonesian Language2 (2-0)MKS 104
MKS 101Indonesian Language2 (2-0)MKS 104
Total 6 SKSTotal

Note: The table structure in the original text appears to have repeated entries or a typo (SEMESTER 03 and SEMESTER 04 are listed, but the content refers to the 1st and 2nd semesters/basic courses, so the table above has been standardized to Semester 1 and 2 for clarity of basic joint courses).

Other joint courses found in the curriculum of every Study Program in the FMIPA are:

  • English Language (MKS 201)

  • MKSP02 is the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata) course, which is implemented in both the odd and even semesters.

  • MPAPA1 is the Research Proposal course, which is implemented in both the odd and even semesters.

  • MPAPA2 is the Final Project (Tugas Akhir) course, which is implemented in both the odd and even semesters.
