Banda Aceh, February 27, 2025 – The Undergraduate Program in Informatics at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) underwent a field assessment for accreditation from February 25 to 27, 2025. The assessment took place in the Senate Room of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) and was conducted by the assessors appointed by the Independent Accreditation Board for Informatics and Computer Science (LAM INFOKOM).
The assessment team consisted of two distinguished experts in the field of informatics — Dr. Said Hasibuan, S.Kom., M.Kom., and Prof. Dr. Indra Budi, S.Kom., M.Kom. They were assigned by LAM INFOKOM to evaluate various academic and administrative aspects to assess the overall quality of USK’s Undergraduate Informatics Program.
The opening session of the field assessment was attended by several key representatives from Universitas Syiah Kuala, including the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, the Dean and Vice Deans of FMIPA, as well as heads of institutional units at USK. In addition, faculty members, students, alumni, and administrative staff from the Informatics Program and FMIPA also actively participated in the event.
The assessment process included a comprehensive evaluation of the curriculum, human resources, facilities and infrastructure, as well as graduate achievements. The assessors also conducted interview sessions with various stakeholders, including students, lecturers, alumni, and industry partners, to gain a holistic understanding of the educational quality within USK’s Undergraduate Informatics Program.
In addition, the assessment covered a review of academic documents, such as semester learning plans (RPS), faculty research reports, and documentation of student activities. The assessors also performed on-site observations of laboratory facilities, classrooms, and other supporting infrastructures to ensure that the learning environment meets quality standards.
During the interview sessions, students had the opportunity to share their learning experiences throughout their studies in the Informatics Program. Alumni provided insights on the relevance of the curriculum to industry needs, while industry representatives shared feedback on the skills and competencies expected from Informatics graduates.
The Dean of FMIPA USK expressed his hopes that the assessment would bring significant benefits to the program. “We hope this process will further enhance the quality of our study program and help us produce graduates who are increasingly competent in the field of informatics,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Undergraduate Informatics Program added that the assessment served as an opportunity for reflection and improvement across various academic aspects. “We are committed to continuously improving the quality of our education and academic services so that our graduates can compete globally,” he remarked.
With the completion of this field assessment, it is expected that the evaluators’ feedback will contribute to the continuous improvement and strengthening of academic quality in USK’s Undergraduate Informatics Program, supporting its efforts to achieve even higher accreditation standards in the future. The final results of this assessment will be announced in due course and are anticipated to bring positive outcomes for the sustainability and development of the program.
