The Informatics Student Association (HMIF) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), through the Department of Student Welfare Management, successfully held the annual departmental event, Open Talk Informatics (OPTIC) 2025, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the FMIPA USK Theater Room. The event carried the theme “Bridging Voices: Towards a More Responsive Informatics Environment” and served as a platform for direct communication between students and lecturers to discuss questions, feedback, and suggestions to create a more conducive academic environment.
The event was opened by MCs Shafa & Dea, followed by the recitation of the Quran by Amirul Mirdas. OPTIC Chairperson, Firah Maulida, expressed her hope that the event would become a safe space for students to voice their aspirations. Glenn Hakim, HMIF Chairman, appreciated the committee and emphasized the importance of constructive discussions that connect student needs with departmental policies. The event was officially opened by the Coordinator of the Informatics Study Program, Rasudin Abubakar, S.Si., M.Info.Tech., who stated that all student input would be recorded and forwarded to the department.
During the main session, Open Talk PPT Question, students raised various academic issues, including activity credit conversion, community service (KKN), final project guidance (KKP), internships, competitions, and requirements for laboratory assistants. Lecturers explained the policies on activity credit conversion, updates to KKP SOPs, recommendations for internships relevant to Informatics, and the criteria for competitions that can be converted into credit points. It was further emphasized that all competitions eligible for credit conversion follow the regulations of Universitas Syiah Kuala. Additionally, lecturers highlighted the importance of cross-disciplinary courses, curriculum updates, and students’ choice of focus areas.
The Feedback & Suggestions session addressed issues such as delays in exam score announcements, lecturers’ responsiveness, academic administration procedures, the need for an English Club, lecturer evaluations, and further discussions on KKN and coding camps. Lecturers responded to these inputs by highlighting student discipline, grade transparency, and the need for innovative final project topics. The event concluded with a prayer by Amirul Mirdas, a group photo session, and closing remarks from the MC. OPTIC 2025 is expected to strengthen dialogue between students and lecturers, while enhancing academic quality in the Informatics Study Program at USK.
